Early 1900’s Washburn Mandolin Restore

You can see the finished Mandolin after quite a bit of work.  I had to re-contour the sides to fit a flat back onto it.  Unfortunately, I didn’t have any 100 year old Brazilian Rosewood to match, so I went with maple. Cracks on the top were repaired, the “Willy Nelson” and “Trigger” monikers were carefully massaged away, the tuning knob replaced, headstock veneer repaired, bridge manufactured, and a lot of cleaning up.  Very satisfying and it doesn’t sound bad either.

The row of older guitars on the wall are all some of my favorites – not valuable or anything, but interesting, and fun to play!  A couple of neck resets, holes repaired, pickups replaced, braces repaired, new bridges, a little finish work.

The tele and the sg are both made from the same 100 year-old piece of butternut (from the walnut family).  One piece wide, but pancaked (2-piece) thickness.  Very light.  The tele body will take a standard neck also.  Both handmade (except the hardware, of course).
